About

Have you ever stood in the supermarket looking at rows and rows of wine or beer, debating over whether to get a particular drink, knowing you’ve had it before, but completely unable to remember what you thought of it?

Us too.

This is our attempt to categorize what we thought about drinks as we drank them.  We’ll likely update our posts occasionally, and more than one of us may review the same beverage.  We’ll look at wine, beer, and perhaps other foods and beverages so we can keep track of exactly how pleased (or not) we were with our purchases.

Who are we? Far from being professionals, we’re people just like you.  We don’t like to spend more money than we have to on decent drinks, and we get annoyed when we by $18 bottles of wine that turn out to be significantly worse than $8 bottles of wine.  We didn’t go to school for this, we all have respectable jobs, and we just want to share our experience with you.  Take it, leave it, or drink it. Totally up to you.

  • Jeff is a Ph.D. candidate in Electrical Engineering, and may be one for the rest of his life.  Even though he was terrible at chemistry and hated biology, he does enjoy brewing.  When his own creations haven’t worked out so well, you might find him scouring the beer aisle to find something he hasn’t tried. After drinking most of the beer locally available, he’s also been known to stand in that same beer aisle, complain about the state of mass-market brewing, then go grab a bottle of wine.
  • Lisa is a lawyer, or will be one soon.  She likes wine more than the rest of us, and doesn’t like beer with “flavor.”  She thinks it’s more economical to take a vacation to places where people buy her wine than it is to drive to the store and buy her own. It’s hard to fault her on that strategy when it seems to work.
  • Seth is a Computer Engineer who programs air conditioners. People who program air conditioners have to have a sense of humor, and reading his reviews confirm that he does. We keep him around because he drinks white wines we don’t like.
  • Matt M. makes sure that Houston has enough water.  Personally responsible, he is.  When he’s not making sure that Houston has enough water, he’s making sure it doesn’t have too much, like when there’s a hurricane.  He likes strong beer.  If you like a 120 minute IPA, you’re in good company.
  • Matt L. is a Washington, DC-based management consultant. Luckily, his firm hasn’t realized how terrible he is and continues to fund his middle class lifestyle. A travel junkie, Matt is a pro at maximizing vacation days, internet travel searches and planning the perfect long weekend. When not pretending to run the rat race, Matt enjoys cooking, laughing with friends, being outdoors and church.
