Andes Selection Santa Alicia Cabernet Sauvignon 2007

While in for a quick visit, Jeff gave me a glass of this Chilean Cab – so, based on what has happened over the past few months, it might seem that some form of persuasion from Jeff is required for me to write a review. That, however, isn’t quite the case – the sad case of the disappearance of every single VacuVin that I used to own, however, is not really something that is exciting blog material.

The Santa Alicia itself, though, seems to match the basic profile of something that we actually might like. The basic specs – Chilean, Cab, about $10 – more or less match our always-recommended Los Vascos Cab.
The wine, though, seems quite basic. Not terribly fruity, but with hints of black cherry – and, really much more noticeably, a bit of chocolate. It is also rather spicy, perhaps moreso than one would expect for a Cab. Solid, but not exactly something that impresses with complexity.

Score: 85
